Overview
  • This 2-day masterclass is ideal for business owners and managers within organisations who want to clarify direction, assess opportunities and risks, and shape practical strategies. Using SWOT, PESTLE, and the Business Model Canvas, participants explore the impact of key business factors and turn insights into a draft proposal for action
  • Welcome and workshop objectives – introduce participants, confirm goals, and define the business idea, challenge, or opportunity to be explored.

  • Business context and current position – review the organisation’s background, target market, current challenges, and what success would look like.

  • Introduction to SWOT analysis – explain the SWOT framework and how it helps assess internal strengths and weaknesses alongside external opportunities and threats. This includes activities and discussion.

  • Introduction to PESTLE analysis – outline the PESTLE framework and how external political, economic, social, technological, legal, and environmental factors affect planning. Includes activities and discussion.

  • Key themes and emerging priorities – draw together the main findings from SWOT and PESTLE to identify the most important issues to carry into Day 2.

  • Recap of Day 1 findings – review the main insights from the SWOT and PESTLE activities and confirm the key issues shaping the business.

  • Strategic themes and priorities – identify the most important opportunities, risks, and focus areas to guide business planning decisions.

  • Introduction to the Business Model Canvas – explain the canvas framework and how it helps translate analysis into a practical business model. Includes activities and discussion regarding the consideration of SWOT and PESTLE findings.

  • Strategic choices and options – discuss what the business should prioritise, improve, test, or change based on the analysis.

  • Action planning – identify practical next steps, responsibilities, and areas requiring further development or validation.

  • Draft business proposal development – bring together the workshop outputs into a draft proposal outlining the opportunity, business approach, strategic priorities, and next steps.

  • Review and refinement of the proposal – check that the proposal reflects the workshop findings and agrees on the main recommendations.

  • Workshop close and follow-up actions – confirm outcomes, ownership, and the next steps needed to finalise the proposal and move forward.
